To sit for the entrance examination to the mountain guide diploma, a large experience in the high mountain environment as well as a high technical level in all the techniques used in alpinism : snow, ice, rock, mixed ground, ski alpinism, ice climbing, canyoning are a requirement … The mountain guide diploma entitles its holder to be paid for the following activities : - to lead and take people around in ascents, in rocky, snowy, icy, and mixed surroundings - to take people in ski tours, ski alpinism trips and off piste skiing - to teach the techniques used in alpinism, in rock climbing, in ski touring, ski alpinism and off piste skiing - to teach cannyoning in conditions when verticality and depth of water require the use of specifi c equipment - training in competition practice in the above activities A retraining is compulsary every 6 years. Even if it can be a full-time job thanks to the many activities it includes, being a mountain guide remains a part time one, and is often associated with another professionnal Training structure: The courses leading to the training guide diploma includes a common training for all the mountain sport-jobs. It requires successful results in the general knowledge topics. It also includes a specifi c training for the mountaineering guide diploma. You must have passed the common examination to get to the “stage d’enseignement des fondamentaux” (basic teaching training period). Therefore, it is advisable to sit these exams as soon as possible after the entrance examination. Training duration The training course lasts 3 years. From the trainee guide entrance examination you are allowed a maximum of seven years to fi nalize the training. You will be given sandwich courses. Some reductions are possible according to the qualifi cations you have already passed : - BEES 1st grade in alpine skiing - BN rescue patrol 2nd grade - DEUG, DEUST or licence STAPS or equivalent diploma. Training cost The total cost of the training is approximately 6000 € from the entrance exam to the guide diploma. Besides the payment you can get after having passed the trainee-guide examination, (you can then auto pay your training) you may get fi nancial helps through the professional training.
